The following note was sent to the executive by Nigel

Dear members of the Exec.

I am very sorry to have to announce my resignation as VC technical of the
IOMICA executive.

Our class rules and a number of technical issues require some in depth
attention in order to maintain and broaden the excellent foundation the IOM
class stands on today. For reasons both related to my new job and personal,
I feel I am not able to give the time required to fill this position as can
be expected both from you and all sailors of an IOM.

My sincere apologies for any time wasted in resolving some of the issues the
IOMICA is facing at this time!

I would like to thank Nigel for offering to take on the position in the first place and am only too aware of the demands these positions place on time but they can also be very rewarding. If you or any member you may now would like to take on this challanging position please contact me.

I don't suppose it would be as simple as giving the position to the candidate that lost?

I know there are certain people that think this is not wise and personaly i am somewhat inclined to agree that it may not be a good idea. Since we don't know why people voted in the way they did (against the looser or for the winner etc) it may be better to simply to start again.

Ok, that's fine, as is also what I expected.
It just seemed strange that the class is practically begging for volunteers, and you have a person that is willing to take the job, and the vote was nearly 50/50.
