French IOM Championship results

Post by Olivier Cohen » 25 May 2007, 10:43

66 boats were qualified for 2007 French IOM Championships, held in Autun, a charming city of Burgundy.
HMS WC 2007 with 6 up and down was used to prepare the Worlds in Marseille, so 5 heats starting from Race 3. We had observers and umpires, some of them will be at the Worlds.
This was the last event to qualify the French team for Marseille. Before the race, Alexis Carre was leading from Olivier Cohen, Laurent Chapelot, Yann Massé and Remi Bres; Patrice Montero was just behind for 5th place.

1st day : around 8 knots with showers
Seeding races were won by Alexis Carre, Remi Bres, Laurent Chapelot and Olivier Cohen.

Race 3 won by Laurent Chapelot.
At the end of the day, Laurent Chapelot was leading from Alexis Carre and Yannick Rossignol

2nd day : Very, very low wind, and only 1 race in the whole day
That race was won by Olivier Cohen before Laurent Chapelot.

After 4 races, Chapelot 1 point before Cohen, 8 points from 3 tied boats!

3rd day : Around the same, but 2 races…
Remi Bres was leading race 5 by a mile when he turned the wrong downwind mark before finish, and had to RAF. So Marc Alazia won race 5.
Race 6 won by a great P. Montero after a fair struggle against C. Limouzin.
Very bad day by O. Cohen, 13th and 17th…
At the end of the day, L. Chapelot was comfortably leading from P. Montero and C. Limouzin.

4th day : 8 knots with showers
Race 7 won by Marc Alazia struggling for podium before Bres and Chapelot, who could have stayed on shore for last race.
Final race was a battle between 3 boats ahead, eventually won by Limouzin from Masse and Carré. P. Montero had a bad day with 10th and 16th places.
