European Championships 2006 - Current Status

I am becoming increasingly aware of a number of rumors about the supposed venue and date for the 2006 IOM European Championships, so a re-statements of the facts is in order.

The owners meeting at Mooloolaba requested that IOMICA make more clear where and when future events are held. The website was updated shortly after the AUS event and the regatta page

now clearly states that No applications to host championship received. Not for the 2006 Europeans and not for the 2007 Worlds.

Any rumors you hear are thus speculation.

I have had some communication with potential organizers from ITA (Stefano Savelli) and MLT (Anthony deBono). These emails are copied to the World Council area (readable by the NCA representative in each country) for information only and are not meant to be the seeds of rumors.
My latest communcation with Stefano is dated 1st Dec 2005 and with Anthony 17 Nov 2005. Neither has contacted IOMICA since nor submitted the championship questionnaire.

Hi Anders,
Yes it clearifies, but worse - it worries me !
What will happen with the international aspect of
the IOM class if no one will host a championship in the future ?

Is this because of the economic situation around setting this up?
Is it because it is too much work?
Is it the paticipants demands and behaviour?

Isn't this vital to sort out ?

Maybe it would be useful to think about such Championships.

They need a whole Week and about 12 Helpers and the organisator has to pay for accomodation and food., makes a lot of money and time

in the EC in England there was 31 english People, at the WC in Australia 41 Australian,

Why not organize REAL Championships with max. 40 skippers and 2 Fleets?

This could be done in 3 Days of sailing and it would be much easier to find Organisators.

For sure, it would be less money for the iomca.....

Well, much more than nothing.

It isn't that hard to find out the reasons for not wanting to host a championship. Just ask the ones that has said no. They now what must be changed for them to say , yes.

iÂ´m sure if you organise the way I proposed, maybe max 3 Fleets with 15 Boats and 3 days sailing, you would have very fast a lot of organisators.

Imagine if in the next soccer World cup, Germany could send 16 Teams out of 32 , just because they organize.....
