Chafing patch in mainsail ?

Hi All,

As you know the agenda for the 2006 IOMICA AGM will be finalized soon, so now is the time to propose any new rule changes we want.

Roy L has prepared a number of administrative rule changes similar to the ones voted on in Mooloolaba, they will be made public soon I understand.

Now to my question:

How many owners think it would be a good idea to allow a chafing patch in the mainsail ? This is typically used to protect the mainsail from the spreaders. What would be a suitable maximum size, 20 mm ?

Hi all

I would like to be allowed to use it. I think the sail then could be used for a longer periode.
Size: 10mm x 30mm max.

maybe the rule change could be in G3.3

Add to "Secondary reinforcement:"
A chafing patch maximum dimension 30 mm

One problem with this is that secondary reinforcement is by ERS definition "not more than two additional layers of ply of permitted materail each not thicker than the maximum thickness of the ply of the body of the sail"

So... if we are all using 50 micron sails then it would only be possible to use something that is 50 micron or less thick....

(same goes for flutter patches and luff fitting patches)
