What is the best IOM Boat????

Hello to All !!!

I'm new at RC "world" and i'm gathering information to build my boat or buy one.

My question to All is simple:

What is the best IOM boat !??

Please Vote and help me choose

No such thing. Any design, and an IOM is no exception, is a compromise. If you mainly sail when conditions are at the top of No.1 rig, for example, then a TS-2 would be an excellent choice. If you mainly sail in very light winds, an Italiko would be hard to beat. I sail an Italiko, and a good friend of mine sails a TS-2. He wins when the wind speed is up, I win when it is down. And so it goes.

Couldn't agree with Lester more. And the list of competitive boats is pretty long. I've seen Ericca's and Discos and Cockatoos do well in light and heavy air. Sometimes it is the combination of the boat and sailor that click together to win races. Asking for a poll of the best boat is like asking what is the best car, often suggestive and generally a matter of opinon.

Hey everybody

There are NO BEST BOAT FOR ALL KIND OF WEATHER

All designers made a boat with a compromise: average light wind versus strong wind; average waves or not, and so on.
Usually they design the boat for the average weather they fond near them,
BUT they design as well for the major Championships, so location is a must
That's my opinion and experience

Like i've said... i'm new at this "world"

I'm just trying to obtain information to help me choose what boat to buy.
I like the TS3's and the Light Ice designs... but what is "best" means to me more than what is the best at the "regatta".

Wich one offers me the best package for the price (wich is the same in fact)? Wich one is best built? Wich have the best solutions for someone who is new at the IOM and RC Boats

Can you help me!???

You should visit some of the sites of the IOM builders as most of them have sites which contain prices, results of their boats in regattas and so on. Anders Wallin has a great links site at

I've been looking at the results for the Euros results as published in Marine Modelling International Jan 2005. The boats you mentioned in your poll are under represented in the top twenty results. It would appear that the hull design is not really significant in the success of the boat. There is a slight trend showing that the sails are more significant than hull shape. More significantly, the familiar names feature strongly in the results.

I know that hull design is 'sexy' but it seems that skill, experience and practice is the real only route to success.
