IOM - the ultimate black art?

Have finally ordered a boat after much searching of the web. There seems to be so little detailed information out there, many builders of part kits, then you are expected to know what to order to complete your hull to make it sail.
Prices are amazing, up to £1300 for a hull only........I am a very experienced modeller and am used to expense but crikey!
I am hoping this forum is going to be helpful (and in due course I hope I will be able to help others) as I am sure this is a great sport, but I have to say it is totally daunting for a beginner to get started........and I am sure many just get put off after investigating the class.
In contrast there is loads of stuff out there for micro magics and RC lasers, why is IOM poorly represented on the web?
Anyone care to comment?
