What's a CJ1?

Post by Frank Vella » 19 Oct 2004, 21:28

A friend is interested in purchasing an IOM called a CJ1 out of NZ. Has anybody ever heard of such a boat?
When the cannon fires, harden up, tack, or get the heck out of the way!!!!!

Wow it has been a while since the CJ1 has been named.

A CJ1 is a skiff type IOM boat made by Chris Jackson (I think). I have been trying to find reference on how to Contact Chris Jackson but couldn't find one anywhere in the web, not sure if he is still active with IOMs or if he has retired, etc.

Is your friend getting a new hull or is it a used hull? I would be surprised if it's a new hull, from what I understand there is even a CJ2.

Our local IOM called the "Tabo" is actually based on the CJ1 hull, very very similar lines, etc. almost a clone actually.

CJ1 are designed like a TS2 and other Skiff types. It actually almost looks like a TS2 but I think there is a big difference in actual hull shape, eg. rocker, etc. But the general design is like a sugar scooper.

Unfortunately we are still in the process of improving our "Tabo" IOM so we haven't really raced her yet against other IOMs. We have raced a prototype against Highlanders and she was keeping up okay. The problem is that highlanders I heard only come into their own in B rig conditions.

If you do a search in the web, you will find some reference to CJ1 in race results, showing that they were competitive at that time. Hopefully they still are with the right skipper.
