Lifepo batteries

Post by IanBryant » 15 Feb 2025, 18:05

Hi, new to IOM and when I brought my new to me boat the guy sailing it was using 6.6 volt lifepo battery 1000ma. The first time out I used what I had which was a 5 cell AA pack so 6 volt. The Hitec winch was quite slow and the others sailing did also suggest these lifepo batteries.

So I have brought one and the charger from Radiosailing and have just charged it and plug in ready for a sail tomorrow.

My question is 1000ma large enough for say 4 hours sailing? And I have a FlySky radio what should I be setting for he alarm on this battery?

I know the winch is a slow unit and the plans are to change this out at some point but for now it is working and gets me on the water.

The other question is could I use a 2S lipo as I have 2 smaller ones but the voltage is higher, the RX will take the full voltage but can not find if the Hitec winch will the current steering servo has a limit of 7.2volts so guess I would have to change this if I went that route. I know that you can reduce the voltage from the Lipo to 6 volt but then I lose out of the extra speed on the winch.

Open to ideas and to understand what people are doing.
Thanks
