I've been made aware that many IOM owners also sail Marbleheads or other Classes and I'm also aware of a few IOM sailors with Micro Magics.

We are trying hard to track down Micro Magic owners so we can issue sail numbers.
If you know of any Micro Magic owners or where you have seen them sailing ...

If the Class does well in the UK, it could prove to be a great feeder for the IOM.

Still needs some smoothing out and the deck, foils drawn but this is a copy of the Noux2 taken by inporting the drawing as a background in Freeship and using it as a template.

does freeship have hydrostatic calculation built-in ?

Yes it does.
God knows what it all means but it certainly seems to produce all sorts of numbers,

for example,


Design length : 1.000 [m]
Length over all : 1.000 [m]
Design beam : 0.222 [m]
Beam over all : 0.212 [m]
Design draft : 0.054 [m ...

In dinghy racing we have similar problems.
The UK scene is flooded with different Classes, all vying to gain members from what appears to be an ever reducing pool of sailors.
Like the US model yachting scene, this has led to dilution and the established and older classes, not backed by the corporate ...

I'll keep the Club idea in mind as I know there are at least five sailors there who would love to have a go at IOM sailing I just need to package it right. :)

Yes, you're right.

It appears that when you fire up a new drawing you are asked to enter some basic parameters like length, beam, draft plus the number of stations and horizontal build lines (buttocks I think)
It then uses a default boat based on those settings for you to modify.

do you know of any free autocad programs on the net, just spent my program allocation money on the new Dreamweaver.

I have an old copy of Autocad 14, which I used a fair bit way back, when designing and extension to the house.

I’ve downloaded various IOM drawings but can’t get them to load in Autocad.

Very harsh words! Certainly, an International class boat, internationally competitive, is not cheap. But I think it unfair to characterise this as "extortionate", with implications of outrageous commercial margins being forced upon completely unwilling buyers.
