Thanks Robert for this excellent link. It helped me understand much better the history and the intent of the rules and the format and the practice.

Change the measurement form to be more meaningful. The rig form requires that the sails be measured...do the same for the boat.

Yes, you are missing something. Read the top of the form where it advises measurers that the boat must be in compliance with all class rules of sections D,E,F,G and H even if not mentioned in the form. . Roy, the problem is that the lengths and weights for the hull are in section C and so are not i...

Hull Measurement Form

In the thread on corrector weights You then have your boat measured and receive a certificate. Hi Roy, I cannot see anything on the hull measurement form that requires the measurer actually to measure the hull length, weight, keel weight or depth items. The measurement form checks for materials and ...

Several items have appeared in this thread. 1. How should corrector weights be attached to the hull. 2. Can corrector weights be moved or altered to alter the trim of the hull 3. can corrector weights be moved between heats (when is a boat racing?) Item 1. My view is that corrector weights must be m...

I disagree with that argument as E1.1 defines the word 'Race' as a noun. The definition of 'Racing' uses the word as a verb. So while a boat that is promoted to the next heat has not yet finished the Race (ie her final finish position is not yet determined), she is not 'racing' in the period between...

It is quite clear to me that the battery falls into the category of "related equipment". Therefore the battery cannot be moved around the boat. The rules says to put the battery in essentially the same location. So the intent is to try to be accurate. It is not acceptable to put the battery in (say)...

To which rules are you referring? That numbering does not match the IOM rule format numbering and I cannot find such wording in my copy.

One last thought raised here. There has been a problem lately with large fleets parking at the start line where it becomes impossible to read sail numbers and see boats and where windward/leeward violations have become rampant. Any ideas how to fix? The concept of putting a judge on the other shore...

The answer requires looking in a couple of places. The issue is that a reversed kicker is working in compression. In the IOM rule, the kicker (boom vang) is listed in the section for 'running rigging'. If you look up 'running rigging' in the ERS (the Equipment Rules of Sailing), running rigging is d...

I have made the jump and ordered a Tx and Rx but I have one final question : how do you bind the Rx to the Tx since there is no crystal to aligns the frequencies ? If I understand your question, connect the battery +vs to the centre pin. Connect one outer pin to the Rx and the other pin to the plug for charging. The -ve wires are joined together. Now with the switch in one position the battery will charge and the Rx is off. Throw the switch and the charge circ...

Hi Don, the answer can be complex, but basically, there is no restriction on materials for your list. The problem is that the rule in its present form omitted to provide a materials list for some rigging items, especially on the mast. Some of the rigging items are covered under the section on the bo...

I run an RMG on 7.2v, but it has a voltage regulator that provides 5V to the Rx and rudder servo.

Hi Don, I don't know how low you could go with torque. I have used a standard analog servo Hitec HS-425BB DELUXE rated at 46oz and a high speed digital servo (as opposed to a high torque) Hitec HS-5625MG - DIGITAL rated at 110oz in my IOMs they both worked fine. Hi Barry, I think you are on to something here. It is really unfortunate that the folks who opened up D2.4 to deal with the multiple Rx issue did not at the same time also deal with the voltage display issue that had also been discussed at length in this forum. This is how I read the class rules.

When a boat is exported, the original certificate is to be sent to the new country. Rule A.11.4

The new country issues a new number. Rule A.14.1(a)

The number is the country letters plus a sequential number.

In my opinion, a good rule says what it has to say and says nothing where it does not have to. This discussion is a good example. The most important part of the radio equipment rule is the restriction to two servo control functions, specifically sail and rudder control. Some of the wording in D2.4 i...

If we do nothing, then the DX6/7 remains accepted as legal. If someone 'protests' or if a formal request is made, then the matter gets refered to the technical committee. They can rule either way. If they rule against then we need a rule change. The best rules don't say anything where they don't hav...

Separate from the legality question, I don't think I would want to add fillers to bulk up the hull. I would be concerned about weight. I would look at adding some strip balsa to the area, and then refairing (with glue and filler). Then the weight is minimized and the legality does not come up. Inter...
