Chairman resign
Dear owners, Due to personal reasons I must resign from my position as chairman of the IOMICA. During this time it has been a pleasure and an honor to work with the other members of the Exec but now it's time to move on. I could have waited to the next AGM to resign but I think it would be dishonest...

Re: Single Panel Molded Sails
Hi John, The problem is that the proposal can’t be as simple as: “the method” to build the sails is unrestricted, because what happens if we vote NO. On the other hand we can not make a proposal that just mention the methods that are allowed because there is no definition of those methods in the ERS...

Re: Single Panel Molded Sails
Hi Bruce, Now that we are in the right way I would like to mention that I am a bit scare of modifying our rules to mention that it is allowed or disallowed the use of heat/force to mould the sails for several reasons: • If we just ban the use of heat or force to induct camber then a regular panelled...

Re: Single Panel Molded Sails
Hi Bruce, The Exec wants to clarify the situation, although for some of us the situation is clear and no change in our CR is needed, but we understand that the original interpretation can cause some confusion, specially if the conclusion of the next interpretation arrives to a completely different f...

Hi Dave, Don’t know what do you mean by: “I would encourage Zvonko to quite simply withdraw his request for interpretation if he has indeed requested one ”. I do not doubt that you are an accredited IOM class measurer then why should you doubt that Zvonko has requested for an interpretation. You kno...

Re: Single Panel Molded Sails
I looked at all the comments I read regarding this issue with open mind trying to find the pros and cons for the IOM community to allow or disallow the use of heat/force to shape the sails and this is the result of my exercise. PROS • The IOM community can take advantage of this new procedure becaus...

Re: Single Panel Molded Sails
Hi John, I agree that may be someone should have proposed a class rule change but he didn't. I any case that is not important now, the important issue is: Do the members of this class want to allow this type of sails or not? The Exec can prepare a proposal of class rule change to forbide this kind o...

I can’t remember in which championship I met Geoff for the first time, but I remember that the first thing I thought when I saw him was: I hope to have his energy and keep on sailing when I had the same age. I believe that Geoff was the kind of person that had salt water instead of blood in his vein...

Hi John;
I would also add that according with Rule E 4.2 (b) (1) you can not get outside help from the rescue boat . Therefore sometimes you need to retire to get the boat ashore.

I might not have explained well. “Only” when the event needs to be financed by IOMICA to be viable we should not allow organizers to make profits.

Hi Aaron,
I have many used sails (I am not sure but, at this moment, I think that only have A rigs). They are not that bad so if you don’t find anything in AUS I can give them to you for free. Send me an e mail or pm and we will see how can we do it.

Re: The Cost of Operating a Major Event
Hi RoyL, I am really glad that we share the same opinion regarding the idea that IOMICA should change the way to be funded in the future and also one of the possibilities to spend the money. But, I think that you also will have to agree with me that if IOMICA has to “sponsor” an event then IOMICA wi...

Re: IOMICA Fees
May be the solution is to ask for the budget previous the award of the championship. This budget was asked to the countries that were competing for the World Championship of 2009, but I am almost sure that we did not ask for this budget for Euro 2010 and Worlds 2011. I understand that the best situa...

Re: IOMICA Fees
All I know is that two year's ago under the previous IOMICA administration, it was pretty clear to everyone that the costs of holding an international IOMICA championship needed looking into. I thought/hoped that finding a solution to this problem would have been on the top of the new IOMICA Execut...

Re: 2010 AGM Agenda and Notice of Meeting
Hi RoyL and Bruce, Running for the position of chairman of IOMICA is a decision that you don’t take in 15 minutes while you brush your teeth. Just like an example, and as you know, you need to get the nominations of two members of the World Council and that usually take its time. So anybody interest...

Breaking of ties in HMS 2007
Usually many SI have their own clause for breaking of ties which may modify the A.8 of the RRS. The HMS 2007 has its own provision about this issue and modify the SI no matter what they say. 1.6 Exception to Sailing Instructions. Breaking of Ties. When a tie between two or more boats is to be broken...

Re: Help with HMS 2007
Having read the different opinions I think that the conclusion of this topic could be: 1º When the idea is to score boats even they haven’t finished then the SI shall modify the RRS and state the changes. 2º When the idea is that boats that haven’t finished should be scored like DNF then there is no...

Re: Help with HMS 2007
Hi Lester, I see the difference and I agree with you that may be most parts of the advice notes are written in a special way to be a rule, but other parts they look like a rule, like for example the TOL, so the jury should treat it like that as far as the HMS is specify as a rule by the NOR. Regardi...

Re: Help with HMS 2007
(Might be worth noting that the "Advice Notes" have no status within a protest room. Only HMS, SIs, NoR, RRS, Class Rules, ERS, and Class Championship Rules have status as explained in the SIs.) Race committees are recommended to read the rules of this system in conjunction with the HMS 2007 Advice...

I have to admit that I had always thought like you, but recently we had a race with very light winds and I had to look to this regulation more carefully. Re: Help with HMS 2007
Hi Roy, Thank you for your explanation. In fact my main concern is the Time Out Limit regulation, in this section the HMS 2007 says that if when the TOL runs out and there are still 4 boats racing the PRO shall “record their places on the water … as if they had finished at that point”. What I would ...

Help with HMS 2007
Rereading the HMS 2007 I get one doubt and that is why I am asking for help. The HMS 2007 clearly makes a difference between the order of finishing, which is used to promote the boats, and the scoring of the boats, were for example a boat which is DSQ in the A fleet gets one more point than the last...
