Re: Pultruded Carbon Spars
I'm not sure why you think anyone here in RSA has issues with this in particular - every now and again someone imports a batch of masts, still much cheaper than local carbon fibre last time I looked , although that was a while ago now. Someone here used carefully chosen dowel for masts awhile back ,...

Re: Flotation
Well that's what I always understood, but I've heard several people say otherwise, so I'm starting to wonder...

Flotation
What is the position on flotation in the hull please? I'm fairly sure its not allowed and may well have been discussed here before - I have a fellow wanting to fit a complicated system of plastic bags and tubes in his hull, so wanted to get the right info...

Re: What cord for sheeting and sail adjustment lines
Something else to consider - some lines do become a little "sticky" when saturated, but often the biggest culprit is mounting your main sheet turning block vertically rather than horizontally... The block traps the line between the sheave and the deck enough to hamper easy running in very light cond...

Re: Wording of rule changes
David , I'm not sure why it is your posts always seem to have such a negative slant - but throwing aspersions at my personal experience or competence isn't appreciated. Not that its any of your business , but its several years since I was asked to serve as NCA rep and also National registrar. I'm no...

Re: Fundamental measurement
David , you miss my point - I dont mean to revive the old tank vs jig debate at all.... And no, the tank test isnt specifically mentioned, but neither are any of the requirements of Part C on the measurement forms - probably the tank test and the overall weight measurement being the most important. ...

Wording of rule changes
Several times in the recent past we have seen some good rules proposed but only to be defeated at the voting stage because of poorly worded proposals . Given that many members are not native English speakers, or lawyers used to writing things in a particular or concise way - is their not some merit ...

Fundamental measurement
I'm curious why the fundamental measurement doesnt include the "tank test" - I presume their is some historical reason for that? Surely thats the time when the boat should be tank tested most of all? I know many countries do tank test at fundamental measurement time, but for those that dont , or tho...

Re: Uniform date for the AGM
I have no problem with a uniform date - but the suggested date is perhaps a little early in the year for us fellows in the Southern hemisphere . Xmas time is our summer holidays and many people are away till 1st or 2nd week of Jan [at least here in South Africa] - doesnt allow much time for voting a...
